Trump Administration Slashes Funding to Nonprofits While Spending Billions on War in Iran

Washington, D.C. – As prices continue to rise and Trump continues his reckless war in Iran, the Trump Administration announced they will slash funding to nonprofits that provide vital services, including to faith-based organizations that provide disaster relief and efforts to tackle the climate crisis.

Cole Leiter, Executive Director of Americans Against Government Censorship, shared the following statement:

“Americans see this for what it is: not an effort to eliminate waste, but an abuse of government power to silence organizations the Trump administration opposes. The consequences extend far beyond any one nonprofit. Families seeking housing, children in need of care, and communities that rely on legal services, health care, education, and disaster relief will lose vital support. At a time when the administration is waging war in Iran and driving up costs for working families, the Trump Administration continues to weaponize the government against dissent rather than address the crises Americans face.”

Recently, AAGC partnered with Ranking Member Joe Morelle’s (NY-25) to release "Silenced, Sidelined and Under Threat: How the Trump Administration is Targeting Nonprofits and Weakening Democracy," a new report exposing the Trump administration’s efforts to undermine the foundations of our democracy and weaken Americans’ confidence in the 2026 midterm elections through a sustained, whole of government attack on nonprofit organizations and other civic institutions.
