AAGC Statement on the Trump Administration’s Decision to Dismantle an Independent Agency Supporting Local Election Administration
Washington, D.C. – Following news that the Trump Administration fired the three remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission, hollowing out the bipartisan, independent commission that supports local election administration, AAGC Executive Director Cole Leiter released the following statement:
“This isn't an isolated personnel decision — it’s the latest move in a deliberate effort to strip independent oversight from our government, including the institutions that protect and facilitate our locally administered elections. This comes as Trump tries to federalize elections and pursue political investigations into voter rolls. Every American should be alarmed by the Trump Administration's transparent efforts to control every facet of our elections."
