ICYMI: Tucker Carlson and Karl Rove Condemn Call Out on Free Speech
In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s tragic murder, even some of Donald Trump’s most prominent allies are warning against his efforts to exploit the moment to crack down on ideological opponents and political speech. Over the past two days, both Karl Rove in the Wall Street Journal and Tucker Carlson on his podcast raised alarms about the dangers of weaponizing government power under the guise of “security.” Their pushback underscores how deeply out of step the administration’s response is—not just with the American people, but with voices across the conservative movement.
Tucker Carlson said “You hope a year from now, the turmoil we’re seeing in the aftermath of this murder won’t be leveraged to bring hate speech laws to this country.”
He later went on to say that any attempt to pass laws “is a denial of the humanity of American citizens and cannot be allowed under any circumstances. That's got to be the red line, because, again, when they can do that, what can't they do?”
And Karl Rove criticized what we’ve seen from the Trump administration, promising to crackdown on speech it disagrees with, writing “using Charlie’s murder to justify retaliation against political rivals is wrong and dangerous. It will further divide and embitter our country. No good thing will come of it.”
