Breaking: Conservatives Charge Ahead with Weaponization Agenda Following Dismal Election Results

Washington, DC – Following Tuesday’s dismal election results for conservatives, Republican members of Congress pushed forward on punishing their perceived political opponents and weaponizing the levers of power.

First, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Subcommittee on the Constitution Chairman Chip Roy (R-Texas) sent a letter to two nonprofit advocacy groups demanding they preserve and turn over documents related to funding “terrorist organizations.” However, the letter is based entirely on a report that its own authors admit does not provide evidence of supporting terrorism or criminal wrongdoing. In fact, the New York Times headline about that report reads: “Report on Soros Cited by Justice Dept. Does Not Show Funding for Terrorism.”

Later on Thursday, the New York Post reported Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) will reintroduce his bill that would make it illegal for any nonprofit that receives foreign funds to participate in lobbying or advocacy campaigns. By targeting nonprofits, the bill harms progressive organizations, but does nothing to address foreign corporations that funnel money into American elections via their US subsidiaries.

AAGC spokesperson Caitlin Legacki released the following statement in response:

“After dismal election results on Tuesday, conservatives are once again showing that the only way they can stay in power is by making it illegal for anyone to oppose them. These efforts are a major abuse of power, and enable an expansion of government that no president–Democrat or Republican–should be allowed to use against their political opponents. There are many ways we can strengthen and protect our elections–targeting progressive organizations and individuals while protecting corporate loopholes won’t achieve any of that.”
